Electrical Exam Term
Grounding Electrode Conductor (GEC)
The conductor that connects the grounded system conductor or the equipment grounding conductor to the grounding electrode.
Detailed Explanation
The GEC is sized per NEC Table 250.66, based on the size of the largest ungrounded service-entrance conductor. For example, for a 2/0 AWG copper service conductor, a minimum 4 AWG copper GEC is required. The GEC must be installed in one continuous length without splices, except where irreversible compression connections or exothermic welding is used.
