Electrical Exam Term
Junction Box
An enclosed box used for housing and protecting electrical connections (splices) between conductors.
Detailed Explanation
Junction boxes must remain accessible and cannot be hidden behind drywall or other finished surfaces. NEC Article 314 covers requirements for junction boxes, including sizing (box fill calculations), securing and supporting, and proper cover plates. All splices must be made inside approved boxes to protect connections and contain any arcing that might occur.
